Jack Williams, Age 22
Private, 10760, 6th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
Jack had been born in Dawley and was living at Rose Cottage, Malinslee with his wife when he enlisted at the outbreak of war.
He had worked at the Stafford pit before enlistment and whilst serving with the 6th KSLI he was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for bravery. This was announced in the London Gazette on the 15th March 1918 and appeared in the Shrewsbury and Wellington journal on March 30th.
Jack had won the MM for rescuing wounded comrades whilst under heavy fire. At some point after he had won the MM he was captured by the Germans being wounded at the time, but the date of his capture is unknown, what is known is that Jack died of his wounds while in German hands on the 18th May 1918 and was buried by the Germans at Sains-Du-Nord Communal cemetery in grave 339.
